Well I bit the bullet and committed Facebook Suicide. If nothing else it will push me to write here more often. I might even tweet a bit too.

So… what to write about. Well to start with, I can share some hotel experiences. For instance the JW Marriott Hotel Grand Rapids

We just loved it. Everything was perfect. Even though Alan wanted to kill me because I turned down a complimentary cheese/fruit plate on arrival because the lovely lady at reception noticed I was a bit shaky. I don’t travel well by road these days – long boring story too silly to relate but anyoldhow we were half way from Ontario to Iowa, new Haitian granddaughter to meet. The views from the room and from the Concierge Lounge – beautiful. The room, perfect. I just wish we could have stayed for a second night. The restaurant is not horribly expensive which can often be the case at hotel restaurants though we didn’t go because we had been 9 hours on the road, the Room Service food is exquisite, again not something you commonly hear in a sentence

There are a couple of things…. the reception/lounge area on the ground floor (in the US you call it the first floor) is open to view from above all the way up to the top. I peered over, hanging on to my glasses, scared to bits that if they dropped off my face the velocity might just kill some unfortunate person way below. Across the river we could see what I think must be City Hall (it’s got some kind of NASA top bit of a rocket, I think, not being terribly technically minded), we watched a wedding party there, who then went across the road to the President Ford Library place to get their photos done. It was very cute. Though it did cross my mind, a brave trip for any thought to take, that – and with no disrespect to your President Ford whom I thought seemed quite sweet – that it was a bit odd that they would build him a library surrounded by steps. Wasn’t he the one who fell down steps a lot? Well I thought it was amusing anyway but then you kind of have to have my sense of humour and believe me, I am not exactly dextrous myself, klutz-city here.

I can’t imagine that we will be likely to be there again for a while but if you find yourself in Michigan, go there. It is truly worth the trip.
